Dishwasher a good idea

Syringe
That'll do the trick

The perils of the kids getting older and doing more chores was ably shown last night where I got to spend an hour draining and reseting the dishwasher. During that I found three cocktail stick, several pieces of clear plastic (from drinks cartons for example) and food. The pump under the filter was blocked.

Jill's alway left the dishwasher to me to load in the main; probably because I'm mildly obsessive about how to load it so it works properly. She'll drop stuff in randomly knowing that I'll move it. Recently, the boys have started loading the dishwasher after meals. It appears that someone has forgotten the basics about scraping food and foreign bodies off though.

After removing the filters and baling out the liquid that flooded the base, I had to clear the sump where the pump impeller is located. That's where the large syringe comes in. You can remove the liquid easily with the syringe where you can't get a cup too. The alternative trick is with a sponge of some sort. Once that liquid is out, you get the particulates out manually and pop the impeller cover. You then use the hose and syringe to draw the liquid out. You can also use it to pull up particulates that may have go into the well.

Anyway, this wasn't a moan; it was more sharing a tip. If you use a dishwasher get a large syringe before it fails. I learnt the trick when we had small glass pieces blocking the impeller a few years ago and that's how the technician got them out from the impeller well.
