First Impressions - Slow Sleigh to Plankton Downs (Troika!)

Slow Sleigh to Plankton Downs
Slow Sleigh has a very distinctive art style.

'Slow Sleigh to Plankton Downs' is a 38-page (including the end-papers) adventure supplement for Troika! Printed as a full-colour hardback book, it is illustrated throughout using what appears to be felt-tip style work by Dirk Detweiler Leichty. It's a distinctive style; some may not like it but it definitely has a distinct flavour. The characters are escorting a strong box out to an ice mining facility aboard a well-used hovercraft ferry when a brutal murder takes place.

There are some nice isometric style deck plans for the hovercraft, 'The Nantucket Sleigh Ride'. The crew are detailed with basic statistics & names, while the passengers are covered in broad-brush fashion (21 Martian Orthodox nuns, 24 water farmers, including children, 12 ice-miners and 4 recent graduates hoping to pay off their loans.

There are a lot of moving parts; sixty-plus passengers, twenty-five crew and a murder plot. Help is given through a set of random tables for NPC names, preoccupations and distinctive features (#1).

The book also features seven new backgrounds, some of which could be used by NPCs. Some of these are 'Persons of non-Human body'; aliens, cyborgs and more. The murder plot should escalate nicely, and much confusion and delay will be caused by the weather table which can potentially extend the duration of the journey when, for example, a large storm hits and forces the ship to anchor. If they don't solve the murders, the journey could take the rest of their lives!

Overall, an entertaining scenario that should provide a good evening's entertainment.

(#1) One niggle- the NPC tables are all D66, yet are labelled 2D6. Mechanically, I guess that's the right number of dice, but it's irksome!
