New Year Fireworks |
We passed New Year quietly, at home with my Dad. It's been his first Christmas and New Year since my Mum passed away and we took full advantage of the social bubble for single people. The evening itself passed with a Zoom call between the four families which would usually meet up. This started with a good gossip for the ladies, whilst the kids soon kicked off an Among Us competition between themselves, at one point using multiple platforms and devices to keep in touch.
Later, we had a quiz, followed by gossip and when the time came I took the old year out and made sure it left. 2021 was let in, but I suspect that it's still going to be a challenging one. We then decided - as the neighbours had launched a huge firework display - to let some off of our own. That was fun, and also got rid of the boxes that have been in the garage for far too long.
Frozen and quiet |
The night was frozen and glorious, and I stepped out about an hour later to take stock. The moon gleamed overhead, leaving the sky a glorious white with the trees standing as stark silhouettes. Eerily beautiful, and somehow hopeful.
We watched a little of Jules Holland and the Glastonbury recap, but called it a night and headed to bed. 2020 has been a challenging year, with some good (new job, Lyonesse, more chance to work from home) and some bad elements (Mum dying, Brexit, the fire at work, COVID-19). Here's hoping 2021 is better. I've read more, blogged more and gamed more than ever, so there are still delights to be found.
I leave you with the moon from around 1am on New Year's Morning. Happy New Year, everyone.
