Something waiting to happen... |
Last night, I had the experience of watching a live stream of Steve Hogarth (Mr H from Marillion, their frontman) performing his heart out at St John the Evangelist's Church in Oxford. It was an emotional experience; the H Natural gigs are very low key in style, just H and a piano (and sometimes backing track via his computer). There's chat between the songs, and he does covers as well as his own material.
H Natural - singing his heart out. |
There was quite a vibe; over eighteen-hundred people were on the live stream feed and the chat stream made it feel like you were at the show with your mates. I'd bought a family ticket so my Dad joined in too. He's become quite partial to H having listened to quite a few of the Corona Diaries podcast episodes with me when he was staying with us.
I ended up watching this on the computer using headphones while the rest of the family watched the end of Strictly Come Dancing with Bill Bailey winning. The bonus was a lovely lasagne on a tray with a nice glass of red wine as the others were eating downside.
Several of the songs moved me to tears; there's something about the simple arrangements of songs that you love in a quiet space that makes you reflective. It's not been a brilliant year, and this was quite cathartic. It was a great evening.
I hope that they release this as a recording; it was definitely a high.
